Afro Latino

Afro Latino

My first exposure to Afro Latin rhythms was on my Cassio keyboard which had a Samba and Bossa Nova rhythm and chord pattern present, not a very inspiring introduction to a musical genre. Sometime later I heard a record in the Wag Club in Soho called ‘Give It Up’ by the ‘Good Men’ which sampled ‘Magalenha’ by Sergio Mendes. The Batucada drums sampled on that track were so additive, I instantly wanted another hit.

Luckily for me a guy who I regularly bought records from called Mark Jones was somewhat of an expert on Afro Latin music and soon hooked me up. It did not take long to realise I had a taste for Latin music, so I sought out more rhythms I could fuse with my house sets.
