Sometime around spring 2007 house producers discovered side chain compression, A compression that uses the signal level of another input for example bass drum to control the compression level of the original signal, normally a lead or bass synth. In addition to this they began layering bass synths, and had multiple synths play just a couple of notes in the line to glitch the sound.

The track where I first noticed Sidechain Compression was ‘BodyRox’ by D Ramirez, soon after that record came out there was a flood of tracks with that sound. The first crop of tracks were akin to deep house and tech house eventually, Electro House became more about big special effects and less about the groove. That’s why I lost interest in the genre around 2010, just at the point it morphed into EDM.
