Like most people who don't live in South America, I assumed the music played in Salsa clubs and Brazilian themed bars around the world would be what I heard when I got to Sao Paulo. Well, the truth is that the music we associate with Brazilian culture is from a bygone era, and not the sound of modern day Brazil.

Brazilian music has evolved to incorporate Reggae, R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul and House. Which is to be expected I suppose given the homogenization of global culture. However, I was a little disappointed as I came here to hear hoping to hear classics like 'Celebration Suite' by Airto or 'Nem Vem Que Nao Tem' by Wilson Simonal.

So for this collection of mixes, I have collated all the songs I hoped to hear during my stay in Brazil. I do plan to produce another collection of mixes that reflect today's Brazil sometime soon; I will need to spend more time in the many bars and clubs dotted around the city. For now, though let us celebrate the Brazil of our imagination.
