I wanted to disrupt the Disco formula and fuse techniques honed by House, Hip Hop and Mash-Up DJ to produce a multi-track mix. My approach was to take original Disco tracks, edited them and overlaid them with House beats and Hip Hop samples. It was important that for the two hours the energy levels never diminish, so I edited out most of the breakdowns. To elevate the mix, I dug through my early House tunes that sampled rare disco tracks, most of which I never found the originals for, despite spending weeks looking for them in the record shops of NY.
I played the set for the first time in front of an old school disco crowd who knew how to move, the set was well received, but I think I wore the dancers out, as after I finished everyone was too exhausted to carry on.
